The New CartoPhilatelist

The New CartoPhilatelist Journal
Current Issue: TNCP #82 July 2023

The New CartoPhilatelist is the premier publication for worldwide collectors of maps on stamps. It is published in English and is a benefit of membership available only to Society members, recognized philatelic libraries and commercial stamp periodicals.

The Society’s award-winning quarterly journal is published in color and printed on high-quality paper using MagCloud, a print on demand service. After printing, the journal is mailed flat, in a protective envelope, directly from MagCloud to each member with a hardcopy subscription.

Members with a digital subscription receive an email with a link to download an Adobe PDF file for the current issue. Hardcopy subscribers may also download digital versions of each journal issue through the “Members Only Journal Archive” described below.

Each issue of the Journal contains one or more illustrated feature articles pertinent to maps on stamps, new issue listings and illustrations, and brief news about Society matters and fellow members. The editor makes every effort to eliminate needless filler produced only for the sake of adding pages.

Submissions

Both members and non-members are encouraged to submit articles for publication. Authors are reimbursed for reasonable out of pocket expenses incurred in the production and submission of the article.

Publication dates for our journal are Jan 1st, April 1st, July 1st, and Oct 1st.  Material for publication must be received by the 15th of the preceding month.

Before sending your submission, please have a look at the “TNCP Style Sheet – Instructions to Authors” document . This will answer a lot of questions you may have about preparing your article. After reading it, if you have any more questions, please contact TNCP Editor David Wolfersberger for additional information on submissions.

Members Only Journal Archive

In October 2009, a secure, members only web page was initiated for the download of digital editions of The New CartoPhilatelist Journals. A number of members have expressed a desire to obtain back issues. The archive allows current members password protected access to all of the digital copies from No 1 through the current issue.

In October 2021, both the TNCP and CP members only web pages were moved to the new CPS Resource Centre.

Latest Issue in the Members Only Archive:  TNCP No. 82, July 2023

Hardcopy back issues are still available for US$ 4.00 per issue, plus shipping costs.

Please remember that only current members of the Society may access the PDF back issues archive. If you have questions about your membership status or would like to purchase hardcopy back issues, please contact the Society Treasurer.

TNCP 37 Dispatched to Members

The 37th issue of The New CartoPhilatelist shipped to members in early April, 2012. The spring issue is full of many exciting articles submitted by our members. A new multi-part article on Captain in Jame Cook and CartoPhilately by James Hamilton starts off this issue. The first article in the series provides an in-depth examination into Cook’s life, and his enduring legacy on exploration, richly illustrated through a number of classic Cook stamps. Future installments of the article will examine cartophilatelic images from Cook’s subsequent three voyages and will be illustrated using 68 cartophilatelic stamps featuring Captain Cook. Next up is a very interesting article on early French aviation history by Roger Kiby. France was in the forefront of aviation in the early 20th century and this article highlights those developments using a number of beautiful and well-known map stamps. Miklos Pinther provides another popular installment of “At the Auctions” giving details of an auction where the original map used as the model for the 1898 2 cent Canadian Christmas issue (Sc 85) was sold. Volker Woesner celebrates the 500th birthday of Geradus Mercator this year with a new and detailed article about stamps featuring images of the famous Mercator projection. In the next article, Tom Tarabicos share some personal experiences and unique history about the map stamps of the Cayman Islands. In Society News by President David Wolfersberger a number of important items are listed. Of primary importance is the planned meeting of the Society that will take place in New York City in October 2012. The issue is rounded off with updates to the checklist and a number of new issue images.
